cahoot welcomes the launch of Lloyds TSB's Access Code Device and supports any initiative which will improve internet security and enhance the customer experience of online banking and shopping.

For its part, in 2001 cahoot launched the UK's first 'webcard' in conjunction with Orbiscom, which helps around 100,000 credit card and current account customers shop safely online.

John Goddard, Managing Director of cahoot says, "cahoot's webcard is a free service and works by giving customers a new transaction number every time they make a purchase, which means that the real credit card or debit card is never given out. cahoot customers can use the webcard anywhere online where VISA is accepted and also for telephone booking and mail order transactions where just the number is needed. Customers can also set the upper limit for each transaction enabling them to set their own online spending limits which will prevent over-payments.

"We introduced the webcard because research amongst our own customers showed that whilst there is an appetite to use the web to obtain special offers and one-off net deals, consumers stated that their online spending would increase if the safety of their personal information was assured.

"We recognise that some people still have reservations about transmitting confidential information on the web, and believe that our webcard re-assures customers that shopping online transactions are as secure as shopping in the High Street."
